Kerry Hammonds, Sr.

Kerry Hammonds, Sr. was recruited from Macon, Georgia, by basketball coach Bruce Stewart and became a crowd favorite from 1985 until 1989 with his physical play at the post position. He is a member of the school’s 1,000-Point Club, scoring 1,616 points and, at the time of his induction, ranked 2nd all-time in rebounding (955), 2nd all-time in games played (121) and 6th all-time in games started (89). He also led the team in free-throw percentage in 1985 (67%) and 1986 (70%). A most notable career achievement for Hammonds was helping lead the Blue Raiders to post-season NCAA and NIT appearances each year in which he played. He scored 11 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in an NCAA tournament win over Florida State in the 1989 Southeast Regional, then followed it up two days later with 22 points and 15 rebounds in a season-ending loss to Virginia. He averaged 11.4 points and 9 rebounds per game in post-season play for the Blue Raiders.
