World War II and military service interrupted Leonard Staggs' athletic career at Ole Miss where he was a starting halfback for two seasons. When the war was over, he chose MT where he became one of the finest ball carriers in Blue Raider football history.
After graduation, he was a coach at Lawrence County High School. During his 25 years there, he compiled one of the mid-state's best coaching records before retiring. In recognition of his coaching and mentoring of two generations of athletes, Lawrence County High School named its playing field in his honor.
