A three-sport star at MT from 1948-52, Maxie Runion lettered in four years in football, three in basketball and two in baseball. He was a standout halfback on Coach Charles "Bubber" Murphy's earliest successful teams. During his four seasons, the Blue Raiders record was 29-9-3. Runion was a Little All-American and captained the 1951 football team.
Runion's play garnered high praise from Coach Murphy who called him "the best running back I ever coached and the finest athlete that I've ever been around."
