Paul Goebel
- Induction:
- 2008
- Class:
- 1995
Paul was the first Blue Raider tennis All-American. He did so in doubles play (with Fred Niemeyer) with a record of 18-5 during the 1993-94 campaign. That season, this dynamic duo was ranked as high as 5th in the nation before ending the year ranked 15th. He was team Captain during both the 1993 and 1994 campaigns, and following his playing days, served as an assistant coach with the program. He was selected all conference for three of his four years at Middle Tennessee. He was then named Head Coach at the University of Memphis, but continues to support his alma mater by returning annually for the Blue Raider Tennis Pro-Am fund-raiser.
Former head coach Dale Short said, "Not only was he our first really great player, but was the best student-athlete we had during my tenure. I can think of no one more deserving than Paul for the Blue Raider Sports Hall of Fame."
