Hall of Fame
Reese L. Smith Jr.
- Induction:
- 1986
- Class:
- 1942
Reese Smith came to MT to play football and get an education but those pursuits were cut short by service in World War II. Despite his short tenure with MT sports, Smith and his family have been devoted Blue Raider fans and supporters of its programs in significant ways. He sent two sons, Steve and Mark, to be educated at MT where they were outstanding pitchers and team members of OVC conference championship squads. Steve also is a member of the Blue Raider Hall of Fame.
Through Reese Smith's tireless efforts, he has continued to support MT baseball by spearheading fundraising to light the field and add a press box, concessions area and other facilities at the field named in his honor. His continuing support for further upgrading MT baseball facilities laid the groundwork for the construction of the Stephen B. Smith Clubhouse and Indoor Training Facility.
