CINCINNATI, OH - Middle Tennessee women's basketball (1-1) fell 79-59 to No. 25 Cincinnati (2-1) Saturday in the Shoemaker Center.
After trailing 32-27 at the half, Middle Tennessee watched Cincinnati go on a 15-9 run to start the second half. The Lady Raiders cut the lead to six with 11:25 to play when sophomore Patrice Holmes nailed a three-point shot from the corner to make it 47-41.
Cincinnati answered with a three point shot of their own from Lady Bearcat Valerie King to make it 50-41 and the game was never in single digits again. Cincinnati shot 46 percent in the game and Middle Tennessee shot 49 percent, but the Lady Raiders committed 18 turnovers to the Lady Bearcats nine, which proved to be the turning point in the game.
"They made a run on us in the middle of the second half and we couldn't answer," said Head Coach Stephany Smith. "What was really disappointing is that we kind of quit, and that is not usually the character of this team."
Middle Tennessee was lead in scoring by Holmes who had 18 points and seven rebounds. The only other Lady Raider in double figures was Eboni Kirby who had 12 points and also snagged seven rebounds.
The Lady Raiders return home on Monday when they host East Tennessee. Tip off is set for 6 p.m. in Murphy Center.
