MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee kicked off the 2002 baseball season with the annual Groundhog Day Luncheon Friday, featuring Blue Raider head baseball coach Steve Peterson.
A crowd of more than 500 people filled the Tennessee Room at the James Union Building on the Middle Tennessee campus, as Peterson ran through the prospects for the upcoming season and unveiled an architectural drawing for a planned stadium expansion at Reese Smith Field in the near future.
The annual luncheon has become the "first-pitch" for the upcoming season at Middle Tennessee, with Peterson taking part in his 15th luncheon.
The Blue Raiders open the season February 17 at 2 p.m. against Austin Peay at Reese Smith Field.
