Blue Raiders Win Two to Remain Perfect

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The 22nd-ranked Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders swept a pair of matches during the first day of competition at the HEB Invitational in Corpus Christi, Texas, on Friday, defeating New Orleans in the morning and Colorado in the afternoon. In the morning match, the Blue Raiders (11-0) took care of the Privateers, 4-0, winning the doubles point and singles matches at Nos. 2, 4 and 5 to win the dual match. The fifth-ranked doubles pairing of Oliver Foreman and Robert Gustafsson won 8-4 over Anders Oding and Sebastien Locatelli, and Middle Tennessee's Trevor Short and Rishan Kuruppu claimed the point for the squad with an 8-4 victory over Abedin Sham and Guillaume Dumas. In singles play, 63rd-ranked Gustafsson won 6-1, 6-1 over Viktor Lovin at No. 2, and Michael Staniak defeated Julien DeLanaitrie, 7-5, 6-1. Kirk Jackson clinched the match for the Blue Raiders with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Oding at No. 5. Middle Tennessee also led in the three matches that did not finish. In the afternoon match against Colorado, the Blue Raiders again won the doubles point and got singles victories at No. 1, 3 and 4 to take a 4-1 win over the Buffaloes. Short and Kuruppu again won at No. 3, taking an 8-6 win over Mirka Jovanovic and Zack Hood. Foreman and Gustafsson clinched the doubles point with an 8-3 victory against Miciei Bilaj and Buck Mink. Fifteenth-ranked Daniel Klemetz won 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 1 singles position for the Blue Raiders over Bilaj, and Foreman took a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Jovanovic at No. 3. Kuruppu dropped a 3-6, 4-6 decision to Bryan Knepper at No. 6, but Staniak clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Mink at No. 4. The Blue Raiders continue action in the tournament against Texas Tech Saturday at noon. The Red Raiders are led by 59th-ranked Royce Ramey in singles. Middle Tennessee 4, New Orleans 0
