Blue Raiders Lose 3-0 at FIU

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee dropped a 3-0 decision at Florida International Friday night in the Sun Belt opener for both teams, as the homestanding Panthers scored twice in the final 15 minutes to put the match away.
The two teams were scoreless until the 39th minute when Elizabeth Durozel scored on an assist from Nicola Bell for a 1-0 lead for Florida International. The Blue Raiders had four corner kicks to none for FIU in the opening 45 minutes, and shots were 9-8, FIU.
In the second half the Panthers took six shots to four for the Blue Raiders, and broke through in the 76th minute when Amanda Salvarezza scored unassisted. The final goal came in the 88th minute on assists from Bell and Rossana Lopez, as Sarah Middlebrook floated a high ball over Blue Raider keeper Emily Shrum for the score.
Shrum made three saves in the match, as the Blue Raiders dropped to 3-6-1 on the season. FIU picked up its first win of the year to move to 1-8-1.
Six yellow cards were given in the match, including four to Blue Raiders: Lindsey Bopp, Megan McGregor, Britney Camden and Christina Mascaro.
Middle Tennessee plays at Stetson Sunday at Noon CT. The Blue Raiders do not return home until an October 4 date versus Arkansas-Little Rock at 4 p.m.
