MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee women's tennis (7-11) defeated Murray State (10-6) 4-2 Thursday at the Murfreesboro Racquet Club. The Lady Raider victory was big for the squad as the team was facing a Racer team that had won four out of its last five matches.
Middle Tennessee got off to a strong start by winning the doubles point. Jennifer Klaschka and Ann-Kristin Siljestrom made quick work of Murray State's Jennifer Ward and Casady Pruitt winning 8-2 at No. 1 doubles. The Lady Raiders clinched the doubles point with a win at No. 3. Jacqui Williams and Claudia Szabo came from behind to defeat the Racers' Christina Hall and Tami McQueen 8-5.
Siljestrom's win at No. 4 singles secured the Lady Raider victory. The freshman from Stockholm, Sweden defeated Pruitt 6-1, 6-2 for her 13th victory of the season. The Lady Raiders also got victories at No. 1 and No. 3 singles. Middle Tennessee had to default at No. 6 and both teams decided not to play the No. 5 singles match since the Lady Raiders had already won the match.
Middle Tennessee returns to action on Saturday when the Lady Raiders host Sun Belt foe Arkansas-Little Rock. Match time is set for 2:30 p.m. at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center.
