Eleven Tracksters Set for Mideast Regional

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Eleven Middle Tennessee athletes have qualified and will compete in the 2008 NCAA Mideast Track and Field Regional set for May 30-31 at John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville, Ark.
Eight different athletes posted NCAA regional qualifying marks during the outdoor season as did the men's 4x100-meter relay team. A pair of men's distance runners won Sun Belt individual events to make the regional field as well.
Junior Samuel Adade will compete in the 100 and 200-meters, posting regional qualifying marks of 10.36 and 21.21, respectively. Adade ranks 36th nationally in the 100 and 111th in the country in the 200 heading into next week's meet.
Sophomore DeRay Sloss qualified in the 110-meter hurdles as well as the 400-meter hurdles. His time of 14.29 in the high hurdles ranks 106th nationally and his mark of 51.92 in the intermediate hurdles is 70th in the nation.
Brothers Carl and Carlos Morgan will both participate in the long jump, while Carl qualified in the triple jump and Carlos posted an NCAA regional mark in the javelin.
Junior Carl Morgan's mark of 25-8 in the long jump ranks 15th nationally, while his mark of 51-8.25 in the triple jump is 24th in the nation.
Senior Carlos Morgan's mark of 24-11.75 in the long jump ranks 40th in the nation and his javelin distance of 208-4 is 69th in the country.
The men's 4x100-meter relay team qualified for the event with a time of 40.53 at the Sun Belt Championships, 66th best in the nation. Adade, Morgan, Morgan and sophomore Phillip Tanner make up the relay squad.
Two other Blue Raider men will participate in the event by virtue of winning events at the SBC Championships - sophomore William Songock in the 5000-meters (15:02.87, 107th in the nation) and freshman Festus Chemaoi in the 3000-meter steeplechase (9:40.33, 118th in the country).
On the women's side, senior Antranette Stringer made the field in the 100 with a time of 11.63 at the SBC meet, ranking 65th nationally.
Sophomore Sarah Nambawa will compete in the long jump and triple jump. Nambawa's mark of 20-5.25 in the long jump ranks 39th in the nation and her mark of 44-2 in the triple jump is 10th best in the country.
Sophomores Brittany Cox and MeLyn Thompson both qualified for the meet in the shot put. Cox's mark of 49-0.25 ranks 68th in the nation and Thompson's mark of 47-11.25 ranks 90th in the country.
Cox will also participate in the discus after winning the event at the SBC Championships. Her mark of 153-11 ranks 100th in the nation.
Adade (4x100 relay), Cox (shot put), Carlos Morgan (long jump), Nambawa (triple jump) and Thompson (shot put) all participated in last year's Mideast Regional in Columbia, Mo.
