MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee, fresh off a season-opening victory Friday at Tennessee Tech, will begin its 2009 home schedule with a 1 p.m. Sunday match against Alabama A&M at Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium.
The Blue Raiders started their 14th campaign with a 4-0 shutout win over the Golden Eagles for their first season-opening triumph since 2006. Freshman Whitney Jorgenson scored two times in her MT debut, while senior Jen Threlkeld and junior Vanessa Mueggler also found the back of the net.
"Alabama A&M is a very strong team," Middle Tennessee head coach Aston Rhoden said. "I know their coach very well; Frank and I played college soccer together. He will have them ready to go. They are a very possession-oriented team with a lot of international players who are very crafty and skillful. They have been in the postseason and the NCAAs a couple times. They certainly are not a team we will take lightly.
"And, with it being our home opener, we are going to have to go out and start off well there too."
MT's contest against Alabama A&M will be the fifth in the series with the Blue Raiders owning a 4-0 advantage against the Bulldogs. Head coach Frank Davies' squad opened its season with a 4-1 loss to Troy Friday afternoon.
Sunday's match will serve as Campers Day as Middle Tennessee welcomes back the kids from the record-setting numbers at its summer camps.
