MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee picked up its second sweep in as many weeks after defeating New Orleans 6-2 on Sunday afternoon.
Junior Eric Gilley allowed just two runs, both came on solo home runs, in 7.1 innings of work as he improved to 6-2 on the season. New Orleans had six hits off Gilley but received just one walk.
The Blue Raider offense also came through when needed as a two-run home run by junior Bryce Brentz in the seventh gave them a 3-2 lead and never looked back. Brentz ended the day 2 for 5 with two RBI.
Middle Tennessee had 11 hits on the day with senior Zach Hudson and junior Tyler Burnett each adding two. Hudson went 2 for 3 with two RBI and scored a run.
New Orleans put the first run on the board after a solo home run by Schwaner in the first.
The Blue Raiders responded quickly as Hudson scored from third after Miller hit into a bases loaded fielder's choice.
A solo home run in the seventh by Sanford broke the tie and gave the lead back to the Privateers, 2-1.
In the bottom of the inning, Brentz hit a two-run to right centerfield giving the Blue Raiders their first lead of the game, 3-2.
A bases loaded single by Hudson drove in two more runs in the eight and gave Middle Tennessee a three-run lead. A single down the left field line by McDade drove in another run as Acker scored from third. The Blue Raiders scored three runs on four hits to take a 6-2 lead.
Middle Tennessee is now in third place in the Sun Belt Conference race at 17-10 and depending on the results of Western Kentucky at UL-Lafayette could end the weekend tied for second. Overall, the Blue Raiders are 33-19.
