Insell speaks at AAU National Championships opening

KINGSPORT, Tenn. -- Middle Tennessee head women's basketball coach Rick Insell was the guest speaker July 3 at the opening ceremony of the 2011 AAU 6th Grade National Championships in Kingsport, Tenn.
Insell, a renowed speaker when he is not on the floor coaching the Blue Raiders, addressed the audience of nearly 5,000 players, parents and coaches at Dobyns-Bennett High School.
He related his AAU experiences with the group, including organizing one of the first teams in the state in 1978. That team would become Shelbyville Sports Shop and win AAU national titles at various age groups in 1988, 1998 and 2004.
His teams eventually became part of the Tennessee Flight program, one of the most successful AAU programs in the country.
