MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee’s LaRon Dendy has been chosen to participate in the 60th annual Portsmouth Invitational Tournament April 11-14 in Portsmouth, Va. The 12-game tournament showcases the top collegiate seniors from across the nation in front of representatives from every NBA team.
Dendy is among 64 players chosen for the PIT field, with eight players comprising eight teams. The Greenville, S.C., native joins Jarrod Jones (Ball State), Cameron Moore (UAB), Rakim Sanders (Fairfield), Kent Bazemore (Old Dominion), Darryl Bryant (West Virginia), Charles Hinkle (American) and Zack Rosen (Pennsylvania) as part of the K&D Rounds Landscaping team. Their first game is slated for Wednesday, April 11 at 8 p.m. CT.
The 2012 Sun Belt Player of the Year averaged 14.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per game to lead the Blue Raiders to a 27-7 overall and 14-2 conference record, both the best marks in program history. In addition to his player of the year and all-conference first-team accolades, Dendy was named an AP All-America Honorable Mention and earned CollegeInsider.com Lou Henson All-America honors.
Players considered for the PIT must be seniors in good academic and athletic department standing. Former participants include the likes of John Stockton, Dennis Rodman, Tim Hardaway and Scottie Pippen.
