Blue Raiders drop 4-2 contest to South Alabama

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee women's tennis dropped a tough 4-2 contest to South Alabama on Sunday inside Nashboro Village.
The Raiders (7-8) claimed the doubles point before USA (12-6) won four of five singles matches to seal the victory.
At No. 3 doubles, South Alabama's tandem of Mary Angela Martin and Cinta Maria Papke swept Alexandra Torres and Taylor Mathews, 8-0. MT bounced back when the top singles action of Carla Nava and Nayara Moraes won 8-3 over Emily Newton and Mchaela Meszarosova. The doubles point went to MT when Yuiri Nomoto and Flavia Nagayama upended USA's Ramona Ghermani and Mariya Krachok, 8-6.
South Alabama evened the match with a 6-3, 6-2 victory from Netwon over Moraes at the No. 3 position. Ghermani won the second Lady Jag point when she snapped Nava's seven-match win streak (6-4, 6-4).
Middle Tennessee rebounded for its only single point when Nagayama defeated Krachok 6-4, 7-5. There was a three set battle at the top position with the Raiders' Nomoto falling 4-6, 6-4, 4-6 to Meszarosova. USA won the match when Martin collected a 6-0, 6-2 victory over the freshman Mathews. S
The Blue Raiders take on ULM on Saturday, March 30 in a neutral site matchup in Birmingham, Ala. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
