CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Middle Tennessee women's soccer fell shy in the Conference USA semifinal as top-seeded North Texas came away with a 1-0 victory on Friday night.
Middle Tennessee started the match connecting passes very well with a couple of chances off crosses from Tori Hawkins and Grace Summers.
The Mean Green struck first as a perfectly placed corner found the head of Marchelle Davis as she sent it to the back of the net to put them on top 1-0.
At halftime Middle Tennessee had recorded four shots from Summers, Hawkins, Emily Jorgenson and Brianna Jasenak as Jasenak proved to be a spark plug off the bench for the Blue Raiders throughout the match.
Middle Tennessee found some light in the second half as Amalie Anderdal sent in two great corner kick services with senior Kelsie Roberts heading the second one toward goal as a North Texas defender cleared it off the goal line.
Despite out-shooting the Mean Green 8-6 in the second half, Middle Tennessee was unable to convert a goal. The Blue Raiders collected six shots on goal to North Texas' three as they forced NT's goalkeeper to make five saves.
"We knew they were going to be a good team," Head Coach Aston Rhoden said. "I think one moment with a lapse on a corner kick is all it was. All in all I'm proud of the effort the team gave, we were always in the game and we just came up a little short tonight."
Kelsey Brouwer ended the game with two saves to send her season total to 96 saves as the junior has 217 career saves. Jorgenson and Summers led the team with three shots a piece with two on frame.
The Blue Raiders end the season with a 9-9-2 record after making the trip to the C-USA semifinal as the No. 5 seed.
"The season wasn't as consistent as we would have liked but we put ourselves in a position to win a title and that is what our program is about to be able to do that every year," Rhoden said.
