Ramsay inks two recruits
MURFREESBORO – Middle Tennessee women's tennis head coach Charlie Ramsay announced on Wednesday the signing of two recruits.
Lidia Burrows and Holly Horsfall will be joining the Blue Raiders in the spring of 2017, when they'll make an immediate impact when they get to campus.
"We are so excited to have Holly and Lidia join the MT women's tennis family," Ramsay said. "They are both such great young women that are not only outstanding tennis players but have great personality and character as well."
Burrows, a West Yorkshire, England native, plays for several national club league teams and has reached the championship round three times. She participated in the final round of a British Tour tournament this year, which is the highest level event in the UK.
From the age of 10, Burrows has maintained a top-16 national ranking in her respective age group, including a No. 3 ranking when she was in the U16 category. She has traveled to Barcelona and France to compete in international events.
Horsfall also comes to MT by way of West Yorkshire, England, where she played alongside Burrows for nine years. Horsfall won the U14 doubles championship at Wimbledon, where she also was runner-up in singles.
She has gotten to three British Tour finals in a row, where one of those losses came courtesy of No. 700 in the world in a close match. Last year, she achieved her best doubles result, winning the U18 ITF in Montenegro. Horsfall has participated in two finals events since then.
Ramsay continued to express his excitement about Burrows and Horsfall, saying "Both girls have shown us throughout recruiting process that they believe in what we're trying to accomplish here, and want to help take this program to the next level.
They will have an immediate impact on our team both on and off the court. We just couldn't be happier that they chose MTSU."
Ramsay's squad will begin the spring 2016 season with a home match against Belmont at the Adams Tennis Complex on Jan. 15 at 4 p.m.
