Middle Tennessee soccer student-athletes Emily Jorgenson
and Kelsey Brouwer
garnered another academic award, Saturday, as both were named2015 NSCAA NCAA Division I and Division II Women's Scholar All-South Region.
Jorgenson, who hails from Overland Park, Kan., was placed on the Second Team by virtue of her 3.76 GPA in Business Administration and her dominating defensive effort this past season.
The defender was named Second Team All-C-USA for anchoring a Blue Raider defensive unit that ranked third in the league and first in school history with a 0.76 goals-against average.
Jorgenson was also MT's main offensive weapon in the first half of her senior season, tallying three goals through Sept. 27 including a game-winner on a penalty kick against Western Carolina.
Brouwer made the Third Team thanks to her 3.91 GPA in Business Management and her play on the pitch.
The Franklin, Tenn. native finished as the school's all-time leader in wins (33), shutouts (27) and minutes played (6,368:06). She is also only one of two Blue Raiders to record over 300 career saves, tallying 330.
Brouwer stymied nearly every opposing offense she faced last season and was named the C-USA Defensive Player of the Year by averaging a league best 5.65 saves per game.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) throughout his or her career; start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team; be nominated by an institution that is a current NSCAA College Services member; be a junior or above in academic standing at the current institution; be in his or her second year at the current school if he or she is a transfer student; and submit the Junior or Senior College Scholar All-America GPA Certification and Signature Release Form.
Those meeting the above criteria were considered by the committee for one of the Scholar All-America teams. The committee reviewed both the academic and athletic accomplishments of the nominees. The NSCAA Scholar Athletes of the Year for men and women are selected by the national selection committee from all levels of the Scholar All-America teams.
