Earns Ninth Victory of Season
NASHVILLE – Middle Tennessee earned its ninth win of the season with a 7-0 blanking of Samford in Nashville Friday.
The Blue Raiders (9-3) had to work hard to earn the victory against Samford (4-5), but they were up to the task in the hard-fought triumph.
Middle Tennessee won the doubles point after Guilia Squadrin and Jess Grace earned an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles, followed by Brittany Huxley and Nayara Moreas teaming up for an 8-7 (7-4) win at No. 2.
The Blue Raiders swept through what proved to be strong singles competition.
Darya Shulzhanok earned Middle Tennessee's first singles win with a swift 6-2, 6-0 win against Samford's Yasmeen Ebada at No. 2 singles. Tiffany William outlasted Stephanice N'tcha to claim a 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles and provide a 3-0 lead.
Jess Grace clinched the match with a 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) win against Jessica Northcutt at No. 3 singles. Squadrin enjoyed a strong performance and won a marathon match against Carita Moolman, 7-6 (7-3), 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-5) at No. 4.
Brittany Huxley won a three-set match against Iva Parapunova, 3-6, 6-0, 6-1, and Nayara Moraes remained undefeated with a 0-6, 6-4, 1-0 triumph against Savanah Wood to complete the Middle Tennessee shutout.
The Blue Raiders will return to action with two matches Sunday. They play host to WKU and Lipscomb University in Nashville.
