MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee baseball has teamed with Go4TheGoal for a special promotion during tonight's game against Belmont. First pitch at Reese Smith Jr. Field is 6 p.m.
Players will wear gold shoelaces and blue and gold tee-shirts during batting practice and under their jerseys during the game as part of Go4theGoal's Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer. The program supports children in the communities that are battling cancer.
Go4TheGoal helps children affected by cancer achieve their goals and provides support to families and hospitals across the country.
"This is a very special program and cause and we are excited to be part of it," Middle Tennessee Head Coach Jim McGuire said. "Our players are excited about the opportunity to participate. It's a great cause."
Cannon County native Branden Schwartz, an eighth-grader at Woodland Elementary School, will throw out the first pitch for tonight's game. Schwartz was diagnosed with medulloblastoma in November, 2011 and has been in remission since December, 2012.
Junior pitcher Garrett Ring will start on the mound for Middle Tennessee (29-22) in its final non-conference game of the regular season. The Blue Raiders plays host to Southern Miss in a three-game series this weekend, beginning with Thursday's 6 p.m. game.
