Huxley clinches win over WKU on Senior Day

MT tops WKU, 4-1, in regular season finale

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee senior Brittany Huxley capped off her final match at Buck Bouldin Tennis Center with a match-clinching victory, as the Blue Raiders took down Conference USA rival Western Kentucky, 4-1.

"Our team really played for the seniors today," MT head coach Charlie Ramsay said. "The girls looked like they really enjoyed being out there today."

Scores were close in the early going in doubles action, but the Blue Raiders came away with a 6-2 win at No. 3 and a 6-3 triumph at No. 2.

Alory Pereira quickly put Middle up 2-0 after her 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5. The Hilltoppers then got on the board with a win on court four. Costanza Magazzini was locked in a tight first set, but came away with the win at the bottom of the lineup, 6-4, 6-1.

Huxley clinched the 4-1 victory, as she took the win by a score of 6-4, 6-4.

Darya Shulzhanok was unable to finish at the top spot in the lineup, but was up a set. Luisa Zirilli had just forced a third set when her match was called at No. 3.

"It was really great to have Brittany's parents and Darya's parents here today," Ramsay added. "They both played really well and competed hard."

Middle Tennessee hosts the C-USA Women's Tennis Championship next week, April 21-24, at the new Adams Tennis Complex.

"We plan to focus more on individuals in practice this week to make sure every girl is ready to go," Ramsay said of next week's tournament prep. "We've still got a couple of days of hard work ahead of us. It should be a fun week."
