Raiders drop close match at No. 44 ODU

MT set back by a score of 4-3
NORFOLK, Va. – The regular season for Middle Tennessee men's tennis came to a close on Sunday at No. 44 ranked Old Dominion, with the Monarchs taking the 4-3 victory.
ODU got off to a good start by taking the doubles point, winning by a score of 6-3 on courts two and three.
Miguel Negre Fernandez had an impressive outing in the regular season finale, finishing first and looking dominant in his 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 3.
The Monarchs took the next three singles matches to clinch the win over the Blue Raiders, but MT finished strong in singles to make the final score, 4-3.
At the No. 5 spot in the lineup, Robin Riethmueller dropped his first set but came away with the close second set victory. In the the third set, Riethmueller's opponent was unable to continue.
Ayed Zatar Cordero lost his first set in a tiebreak, but forced a third set match-tiebreak by coming back to win 6-4 in the second set. Zatar won the match-tiebreak by a score of 10-6 to finish off the match and give MT its third point in the match.
The Blue Raiders finish their season with a record of 16-9 and a 2-2 mark in Conference USA play.
The 2016 C-USA Men's Tennis Championship is hosted by Rice and will be April 22-24.
