18 Blue Raiders to compete in NCAA East Regional

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A total of 18 Blue Raiders are slated to compete in the NCAA East Regional Championship at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla., May 26-28, in hopes of advancing through the preliminary round to the NCAA Championships June 8-11 in Eugene, Ore.
For the Middle Tennessee women, Agnes Abu (800 meter & 4x400-meter relay), Susan Aneno(800 meter & 4x400-meter relay), Elizabeth Dadzie (100-meter hurdles & long jump), India Hammond (Long jump and triple jump) and Pershawna Williams (High jump and long triple jump) are scheduled to compete in two different events each.
Joining the group of multiple event athletes are, Josphine Kiptebeny (3,000-meter steeplechase), Gladys David (5,000 meter), Qetuwrah Abdullah-Muhammad (Long Jump), Taylor Day (4x400-meter relay) and Loveth Odia (4x400-meter relay).
"Really proud of this group and very quality competition going to the NCAA East Regional," said head coach Dean Hayes. "We also have many young athletes going, which will benefit them going forward."
For the Blue Raider men's squad, Sampson Laari (800 meter & 1,500 meter) and Atsu Nyamadi (Javelin & long Jump) are the only two slated to compete in two events.
In addition to Laari and Nyamadi, Eliud Rutto (800 meter), Geoffry Cheruiyot (3,000-meter steeplechase), Shadrack Matelong (3,000-meter steeplechase), Jacob Patten (High Jump), Phillip Smith (triple jump) and John Ampomah (javelin) are also scheduled to compete in Florida during the three-day preliminary round.
"It shows that they put in a lot of hard work this year to get to the extra," said Hayes. "The meets beyond the championships and a chance to go to the NCAA."
