MT drops road contest in straight-sets to UTEP

EL PASO, Texas – The Middle Tennessee volleyball team fell in straight-sets (25-19, 25-16, 25-14) to the UTEP Miners on Sunday afternoon in the Memorial Gym.
Notable
Junior Makila York paced the Blue Raider offense recording 10 kills while hitting on a .280 clip this afternoon. Likewise, sophomore Dora Peonia added seven kills and a service ace for the Blue Raiders.
From the back row, sophomore Brienna Tankesley tallied 11 digs and an assist while junior Bailey Mason racked up eight digs and added five kills for MT.
Freshman Maddie Sweeney posted her fourth start as the Middle Tennessee setter to record 22 assists and add three kills in the match.
Also recording kills for the Blue Raiders in the match included freshman Josie Maxim (2) and redshirt-sophomore Alyssa Mathis (1).
Set By Set
In the first set, the Miners jumped out to an 8-6 advantage over the Blue Raiders before Middle Tennessee took the lead in the frame after an ace from Peonia and a kill by York (10-9). However, the Blue Raider defense was unable to stop the Miner offense as UTEP hit on a .320 clip to notch the first frame, 25-19.
In the second frame, the UTEP offense did not let up as they opened the set with an 18-7 advantage over Middle Tennessee. However, the Blue Raiders battled back within four, 16-20, but could not get any closer as the Miners clinched the second set, 25-16.
In the third and final frame, the Blue Raiders were unable to stop the Miner offense falling, 25-14, for UTEP to clinch the match, 3-0.

The Blue Raiders return to the Alumni Memorial Gym for three-straight home games against Austin Peay on Nov. 1, WKU on Nov. 5 and FIU Nov. 9., which will also be senior night.
