MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- The Blue Raiders fell in three sets (25-21, 25-16, 25-19) to the Thundering Herd on Sunday afternoon in the Alumni Memorial Gym.
Sophomore Dora Peonia paced the squads attack with 15 kills while hitting on a .409 clip. The Castel Bolognese native added three digs and a service ace during the matchup.
From her setter spot, sophomore Taylor Hammill racked up 28 assists for the Blue Raiders. Similarly, sophomore Brienna Tankesley (5) and Peonia (2) chipped in with a combined seven assists.
On the defensive end, it was junior Regan Coughlin leading the way with seven digs followed by Hammill with six.
The Thundering Herd's defense was in full force during the first frame; Marshall recorded seven blocks in the first set and held MT's attack percentage to a .034 clip. MT was able to fight back and come within one of the Thundering Herd (22-21) but was unable to recover from kills by Madison Hill for the Herd to clinch the first frame, 25-21.
In the second frame, the Blue Raiders built an early lead (3-1) but, were unable to maintain their offensive momentum to drop the second set, 25-16. In the third and final frame, Marshall clinched the match with a 25-19 edge over Middle Tennessee.
