Soccer Falls in Trip to FAU

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Middle Tennessee (9-4-1, 5-1-1) soccer team dropped a hard-fought battle to Florida Atlantic on Sunday afternoon. The Raiders fell 1-0 with the games only goal coming in the 40th minute by FAU's Sammy Vitols.
Match Moments
10' - CHANCE (FAU) - Elisha Holmes ripped a shot from just outside the box and Barnard swatted it away. The ensuing corner kick set up a header for the Owls, but it bounced off the crossbar and was cleared by MT.
20' - SAVE (MT) - The Owls worked their possession into the six yard box and Pernille Velta got a shot off while surrounded by MT defenders, but Barnard fell on the ball for a save.
40' - GOAL (FAU) - Sammy Vitols received a pass and found herself alone with the keeper. Her low shot bounced past the diving Barnard to get the Owls on the board.
42' - SAVE (FAU) - Peyton DePreist took MT's first shots on goal near the end of the second half. She was set up with a nice pass into the box each time, but the Owls' keeper was there for the saves.
53' - SAVE (FAU) - Maddie Falter collected a goal kick from Barnard and sprinted past the FAU defense. She put a shot on goal but was turned away by the keeper.
54' - SAVE (MT) - Emma Grissom collected a high cross just outside of the box and ripped a shot on goal. Barnard made a fantastic diving play to deflect the shot.
80' – SAVE (MT) Amber Hoot beat the defense and got a good look at the goal, but FAU's keeper collected it for the save.

Middle Tennessee returns to the Dean A. Hayes Track & Soccer Stadium for an important C-USA matchup on Friday, Oct. 19. The contest is a 7 p.m. kick between the Blue Raiders and Southern Miss.
