NEW ORLEANS – Earning a degree is first and foremost with the Middle Tennessee football program as evidenced by a 96% graduation rate under Head Coach Rick Stockstill. Therefore, celebrating these accomplishments is a high priority as well.
The Blue Raiders have long been a standard of APR success with a recent multi-year rate of 984.
With the University's graduation set for Saturday and the Blue Raiders' bowl game the same day, a special ceremony for 10 football student-athletes and one team equipment manager was held in the team meeting room this afternoon in New Orleans at the Hilton Riverside Hotel.
President Sidney A. McPhee and faculty athletic representative Terry Whiteside made the special trip down to the team hotel to honor the graduates.
The student-athletes going through the ceremony this afternoon were: Robert Behanan, College of Basic and Applied Sciences; Chandler Brewer, College of Basic and Applied Sciences; Khalil Brooks, College of Behavioral and Health Sciences; Wesley Bush, University College; Rosheem Collins, University College; Jahmal Jones, College of Basic and Applied Sciences; Darryl Randolph, University College; Tavonn Salter, University College; Patrick Smith, University College; and Ty Watkins, College of Behavioral and Health Sciences.
Manager Doug Lipscomb also graduated with members of the football team. Lipscomb earned a Master's Degree in the College of Behavioral and Health Sciences.
Whiteside, who serves as dean of the MTSU College of Behavioral and Health Sciences, plans to remain in New Orleans through the game, but McPhee will be flying back to Murfreesboro Friday night to preside over the University's two commencement ceremonies.
The Blue Raiders will hit the field for the final time this year on Saturday at 8 PM against Appalachian State. A total of 17 players will compete in the game with a degree already in hand.
