MT turns focus to Friday doubleheader

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – In the second match of a four-match home stand, Middle Tennessee women's tennis fell to Tulsa on Sunday afternoon by a score of 4-1.
Tulsa jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the match after winning doubles matches on courts one and two. The Blue Raiders fought with Tulsa at No. 1, but the Golden Hurricane got the upper hand, 7-5, to clinch the first point in the match. Marta Peris Herrero and Maria Josefina Zehnder were leading in their match, 6-5, but were unable to finish.
In singles action, Tulsa extended their lead to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 win at the top spot in the lineup. Zani Barnard won her match at the bottom of the lineup by a score of 6-3, 6-2, but the Golden Hurricane took straight-set wins at No. 2 and 4 to clinch the win.
Kim Kermet was down 0-5 to start her match on court three, but she won seven games in a row to claim her first set, 7-5. She was leading 1-0 in the third set at No. 3 when her match was halted due to Tulsa clinching the victory. Herrero was also unable to finish her match at No. 5 with a 3-2 lead in her second set after dropping the first.
MT will be back at the Adams Tennis Complex on Friday for a doubleheader with UT-Martin and Samford, with action beginning at 10 a.m.
"We'll be a little more physical this week and get in shape for Friday," MT head coach Charlie Ramsay said. "We didn't particularly handle adversity well Friday or today, so it'll be a tough week of practice."
