ITA Men's Team Rankings
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – For the first time since April 5, 2016, Middle Tennessee's men's tennis team is nationally ranked by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) with a record of 14-4 and seven regular season matches remaining.
The Blue Raiders come in at No. 50 this week after wins over Charlotte and Florida Atlantic at the Conference USA Pod last weekend. Old Dominion is the only team in C-USA that is ranked ahead of MT, as the Monarchs are No. 31 this week following three wins at the C-USA Pod.
"The guys have been working hard, and this is an acknowledgement of that hard work," MT head coach Jimmy Borendame said. "Being ranked is always a goal for our program, and it's great to achieve it. But, at the end of the day, it's about us getting better each time on court and in the gym."
Leading the charge for the Blue Raiders has been senior Gian Issa in dual match singles play. The Paramaribo, Suriname, native boasts a 15-2 singles mark in the spring so far, and he's followed by freshman Chris Edge in the middle of the lineup with a singles record of 12-5. Gonzalo Morell Raschiatore is the third Blue Raider that has double-digit singles wins in the spring season with a 11-5 record. As a team, MT is a combined 29-5 at the No. 5 and 6 singles spots.
Edge pairs with sophomore Tom Moonen at the top doubles spot for a 13-4 record so far this spring, and the duo spent some time nationally ranked in doubles earlier this season. Morell and Miguel Negre Fernandez follow closely behind them with a 9-2 mark.
Next on the calendar for the Blue Raiders is a match at South Alabama on Saturday, followed by four consecutive home matches at the Adams Tennis Complex as the regular season winds down.
