Tigers get the best of the Blue Raiders, 4-1

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee women's tennis dropped a 4-1 decision to Memphis in the final road match of the regular season, and the Blue Raiders now turn their attention to a home match against Western Kentucky on Sunday.

Scores were close in doubles play, but the Tigers won matches at No. 2 and 3 to clinch the first point in the match. Kim Kermet and Luisa Zirilli were trailing, 5-4, but were unable to finish their match on court one.

Memphis cruised at No. 3, 6-0, 6-1, to make the score 2-0, but Zani Barnard won her 10th singles match of the spring with a score of 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 over the Tigers at No. 4 to put the Blue Raiders on the scoreboard. The Tigers closed out the match by winning at No. 5, 6-3, 7-5, and No. 6, 6-4, 7-5. Costanza Magazzini and Maria Josefina Zehnder were both in a third set at the top of the lineup but were unable to finish the match.

The Blue Raiders will be looking to get back to their winning ways in Sunday's match against Western Kentucky at the Adams Tennis Complex at 1 p.m.

WKU enters the weekend with a 7-3 record and on a three-match win streak. The Hilltoppers are also 5-3 in true road matches as they take on Cincinnati and MT this weekend. Moka Ito leads WKU with an 8-1 record at the front of the singles lineup, and the Hilltoppers have at least a .500 record at every singles spot. In doubles, WKU is 13-16 as a team this season.
