King named TSWA Player of the Year

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Blue Raider men's hoops standout Nick King reeled in yet another award this week as the Tennessee Sports Writers Association named him its Player of the Year.
The accolade honors the top men's basketball player in the state of Tennessee this season regardless of division and is awarded based on media votes from across the state. King is the second Blue Raider in a row to win the award, following 2017 winner JaCorey Williams.
King averaged 21.0 points, 8.4 rebounds and two assists per game in his lone season at Middle Tennessee, posting 32 double-digit scoring games with 19 outings of 20 points or more while collecting 11 double-doubles on the season. His 694 points shattered a 31-year-old school record for points in a single season, surpassing Kim Cooksey's mark of 623 points in the 1986-87 season.
King's efforts as he led the Blue Raiders to a Conference USA regular season title and into the second round of the National Invitation Tournament have already earned him numerous honors, including Conference USA Player and Newcomer of the Year, USA Today Third Team All-American, Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Finalist, Lute Olson Award Watch List and most recently a Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Co-Male Amateur Athlete of the Year.
The Memphis native will be honored at the TSWA Hall of Fame dinner and banquet at Cumberland University on July 12 alongside Men's Coach of the Year Rick Barnes (Tennessee), Women's Coach of the Year Bart Brooks (Belmont) and Women's Player of the Year Kylee Smith (Belmont).
