VT comes to Floyd in 2020
MURFREESBORO – Middle Tennessee has agreed to a home-and-home football series with perennial power Virginia Tech as announced by both schools on Monday.
The Blue Raiders and Hokies will meet for the first time in school history when Virginia Tech comes to Floyd Stadium on Sept. 19, 2020. Middle Tennessee will then travel to Blacksburg, Va., on Sept. 11, 2021 to complete the series.
To accommodate the Hokies, Middle Tennessee and Liberty had to change their 2020 meeting in Murfreesboro to October 3, 2026.
"This will be a tremendous game for our fans and a great opportunity for our program," said Director of Athletics Chris Massaro. "I really want to thank Whit Babcock (VT AD) and his staff for working with us and helping make it happen.
"I also want to extend thanks to Liberty AD Ian McCaw and his staff for being able to move our game in 2020 to make this happen. Scheduling is never easy and it takes a lot of people working together and I appreciate what Liberty was able to work out."
The Hokies will be the fifth ACC team to play in Floyd Stadium as the Raiders have hosted Maryland, Virginia, Georgia Tech and Duke in 2019. Annually ranked among the nation's top 15 programs, the Hokies will likely be the first ranked team to ever play in Floyd Stadium.
