Blue Raiders shine in Summer Baseball
7/2/2018 3:00:00 PM | Baseball
Several Blue Raiders have made a splash for their collegiate summer league teams while improving and honing their skills.
So far, the players have made their school proud and are showing a lot of improvements while representing MTSU.
One of the many bright spots this summer has been Myles Christian. Christian has been absolutely key in the High Point HiToms, success. As of Monday July 2nd, Christian is batting .384 with nine homeruns and 22 RBIs, and he currently leads the team in batting average and homeruns, second in RBIs. He was even named the Coastal Plain League hitter of the week in week two for his efforts.
Two other Blue Raiders can also lay claim to helping the HiToms team that was just crowned the mid-season champs of the Coastal Plains Petit Cup Playoffs.
Outfielder Manuel Lopez has been solid at the plate and put up some impressive numbers despite his limited playing time.
So far Lopez boasts a .341 with two homers and seven RBIs in only 14 games played. He also won the Coastal Plain Leagues final vote, earning himself a spot into the All-Star Game.
Pitcher Tyler Holcombe has been a solid contributor on the mound for the HiToms. So far, he holds a 1-0 record with a 2.77 ERA in 13 innings of play.
Catcher Aaron Antonini has done well for the Danbury Westerners, in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. The junior has hit for a .275 batting average to go along with two homeruns and seven RBIs. He has been a bright spot, as well as a key contributor, to a team that currently sits at 9-12, 2-8 in their last ten games.
And rounding out the list of current players who are playing well are pitchers Grant Williams and Conner Bell. They are currently teammates on the Hamilton Joes of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League.
Both have been absolutely electric on the field, being among the pitchers with the lowest ERAs on their team.
Williams currently boasts an ERA of 1.12 in eight innings of relief pitching.
Bell has a 1-1 record with an ERA of 1.80 to go along with it.
As most teams hit the half-way point of the summer season, these players should continue represent MTSU well.
