6-4 transfer has two years of eligibility remaining
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee continues to stockpile talent within its women's basketball program as heralded center Ra'Shika White has signed a national letter of intent with the Lady Raiders, Head Coach Rick Insell has announced.
White is a 6-foot-4 center from Charlotte, N.C., who played her last two seasons at Elon University. She will sit out the 2018-19 season due to NCAA transfer rules, and have two years of eligibility remaining. White is the fifth player in the talented 2018 signing class.
"We are absolutely thrilled to add Ra'Shika White to our program and complete our 2018 class," Insell said. "Ra'Shika is a talent who will impact our program immediately when she becomes eligible for her junior season. I believe our staff did a tremendous job in the recruitment of Ra'Shika."
White, the daughter of Randy and Salina White, was the Colonial Athletic Association Sixth Player of the Year in 2017-18, as well as an All-CAA selection. She was a three-time player of the week honoree in the CAA, and was also named to the CAA All-Rookie Team in 2016-17.
"I am looking forward to three great years at Middle Tennessee," White said. "Everyone around the program is great and very welcoming, and that's the main thing I was looking for in another school. I enjoyed my visit. I believe I fit in with the players there and the coaches are great. I am excited about my future at Middle Tennessee."
White is coming off of a breakout sophomore campaign in which she played in 32 of Elon's 33 games and averaged 12.6 points and 6.0 rebounds in just 18.4 minutes per game. She was second on the team in scoring in rebounding. The imposing White also is a strong shot blocker. Her 43 blocks in 2017-18 and her 1.34 rejections per game closed as the sixth-most in the CAA and the most on her team.
White enjoyed career highs of 29 points (vs. Winthrop) and 13 rebounds (vs. James Madison) during her sophomore campaign.
"Ra'Shika is an aggressive offensive and defensive player that can finish at the rim," Insell said. "She's got great hands and good footwork. I think she's got a chance to put a couple of good years together and have a chance to get drafted."
