Men's Tennis to Compete in Two Events this weekend

Middle Tennessee Men's Tennis will compete in two events over the weekend. Three players will travel to Tulas, Okla. for the ITA All-American while others will stay home and compete in the Coach Short/LaLance Shootout. Fans can get live updates on Twitter (@MT_MensTennis).

Scouting the Competition
Lipscomb – The Bisons have competed in two events so far this season. They found success at the Southern Intercollegiate with the doubles pair of Victor Chaw and Pablo Caffarena reaching the quarterfinals. The following weekend, Pedro Uribe went 3-1 and earned a doubles victory as well at the Commodore Scramble.
Memphis – The pairs of Jan Pallares/Jeremy Taylor and Turner Voges/Patrick Sydow each claimed a share of the doubles title at the Chattanooga Collegiate Clay Court Championships while a pair of freshmen in Oscar Cutting and David Stevenson won their doubles flight at the Crimson Tide Four-in-the-Fall.
Belmont – The Bruins also competed at the Commodore Scramble with Jake Briggs highlighting the weekend. Briggs won three of his four singles matches and both of his doubles. The following weekend, Hendrik Inno competed in the ITA Masters against some of that nation's best and went 1-1 in the event.
Tournament History
The Short/LaLance shootout was two separate events last season. In the Dale Short Shootout, Chris Edge and Luis Morillo Diaz both going undefeated in singles play. Edge went 1-1 at the following week's Dick LaLance Showdown.
Five Blue Raiders competed in the 2017 ITA All-American with Diaz advancing the furthest in the tournament, winning two singles matches and advancing to the round of 32. Gonzalo Morell Raschiatore won over opponents from Fresno State and Oklahoma State before falling in the Round of 64.
Players to watch
Francisco Rocha – In his first collegiate competition, Rocha went 3-0 in doubles matches at the Penn Invitational. The Portuguese freshman has made the transition to college tennis look easy and will try to continue that this weekend.
Tom Moonen/Chris Edge – The nationally ranked doubles pair did not compete together at the Penn Invitational, but they will be back together at the ITA All-American. Moonen/Edge opened the season ranked 32nd in the ITA doubles rankings.
Luis Morillo Diaz – Diaz was the lone Blue Raider to advance to the round of 32 at last year's All-American and is one of three that will return this season.
