Benefield Named to C-USA Pre-Season All-Conference Team

MURFREESBORO, Tenn., - With just a few weeks until the 2019 campaign begins, senior Blake Benefield has been named to the Pre-Season All-Conference team on Thursday, chosen by the C-USA coaches.
Benefield is just one of three outfielders in the conference selected to the team.
"It's an honor," Benefield said. "It's nice because everyone wants to have a special senior season and I wouldn't want anything more than to go out with a bang with my teammates."
Last season, Benefield started all 55 games while batting .278 and driving in 44 runs. Head coach Jim Toman knows all too well the importance of having a senior leader like Benefield.
"Blake is certainly deserving of the pre-season all-conference team," Toman said. "He is one of the top power hitters in the conference and we are looking forward to Blake having a big senior season."
While it's nice to get the recognition at the beginning of the season, Benefield knows there is still work to be done.
"I'm going to keep working with our coaching staff to get better on the offensive and defensive side of the ball," Benefield said. "I want to get better every single day even if it's just little adjustments."
The Blue Raiders open up the season in Murfreesboro against Bowling Green on Feb. 15. Conference play for the Blue Raiders will begin March 15 when MT travels to San Antonio to take on UTSA for a three game series.
