Savage Player of Week, Hayes Freshman of Week
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee swept the Conference USA weekly awards with Charity Savage being named Player of the Week and Aislynn Hayes earning Freshman of the Week honors.
Savage registered her fourth double-double with 13 points and 22 rebounds in Middle Tennessee's 82-70 win against TCU to earn her first C-USA Player of the Week honor. Savage was also named the College Sports Madness National High-Major Player of the Week.
Hayes racked up her third C-USA Freshman of the Week honor after scoring a game-high 22 points and grabbing a season-best eight rebounds against the Horned Frogs.
Savage dominated the glass with a career-high 22 rebounds, which represented the most by a Lady Raider since 1985 and ranks fourth in Middle Tennessee single-game history. The 22 rebounds were the fifth most in NCAA Division I basketball this season.
Savage came up big with the game hanging in the balance. She scored eight of her 13 points and collected five rebounds in the fourth quarter. Savage was 6-for-6 at the free-throw line in the final 32 seconds to seal the win. She was 9-of-10 from the line overall.
TCU had possession of the ball, trailing 69-66 when Savage collected her only steal with 2:33 remaining. After a Lady Raider miss, TCU again had a chance to tie the game but Savage, playing with four fouls, took a charge. She then converted a layup on the other end to push the lead to 71-66 with 1:19 remaining.
Savage also added three assists, one block and one steal in the win.
The Memphis, Tenn., native is sixth nationally and first in C-USA with 12.1 rebounds per game. She is eighth nationally with 4.9 offensive rebounds per game.
Hayes continued to shine in her breakout rookie campaign as she connected on a season-high seven field goals and tied her season high with five 3-pointers.
Hayes' 22 points were one shy of her season high and she also added three assists to go with her eight rebounds.
The Murfreesboro, Tenn., product is the only C-USA player to be named Freshman of the Week multiple times, having been so honored three times.
Hayes is 68th nationally and fourth in C-USA with 2.4 3-pointers per game.
