Women's Tennis Falls to C-USA Foe Charlotte

MURFREESBORO, TENN. – Middle Tennessee falls to a tough Charlotte squad 5-2 in the third installment of C-USA action on Saturday afternoon.
After the 49ers clinched the win early on, Kim Kermet battled to the last tiebreaking point to give the Blue Raiders their second after Marta Peris Herrero won her match in straight sets on court six for her fourth-straight win.
Charlotte opened Saturday's match by taking the first doubles match, but Middle Tennessee would not go away easily as Luisa Zirilli and Lidia Burrows battled till tiebreaker 7-6. The twins (Lee Barnard) and (Zani Barnard) were up 2-1 on tiebreaker but was left unfinished.
In singles play, the Blue Raiders started slow early on as Charlotte took a 3-1 lead, but the last three matches went to three sets as all of the Blue Raiders won their second sets after falling in the first. Sadly, the 49ers would take two of the last three but Kermet grinded out a big win for her fifth of the season.
"I believe the girls played very tough and fought until the end." Coach Bailey-Duvall continued saying, "We knew this was going to be a close match going in, and though we struggled at the beginning of a few matches, we were able to climb back and give ourselves a good chance to win. We are motivated and propelled back to practice court this week to prepare for the next matches. We are Raider tough and we will continue to get better."
