MURFREESBORO – Director of Athletics Chris Massaro announced today he is elevating Larry Maples to the position of Associate AD for Facilities & Operations. Maples takes over the position that was previously held by Kortne Gosha.
For the last three years, Maples has served as the department's assistant athletic director for equipment operations.
In his new role, Maples will oversee equipment operations, strength and conditioning, facilities and game operations.
"As we look to improve our facilities and overall game operations, Larry is the perfect person for the position," said Massaro. "He combines institutional experience, high organizational skills, and an engineering background which will be a huge benefit as we embark on some major facility projects."
In 2017, Maples was named the Jeff Boss District IV Equipment Manager of the Year and has also served on the Athletic Council for United Sports Brands. Maples is also a 2018-19 Sports Management Institute Executive Program participant.
The Memphis, TN, native made his way to Murfreesboro in 2016 after spending the previous year as a supply chain engineer for Mueller Industries. He has also worked as an industrial engineer for Electrolux Home Cooking Products.
From 2013 to 2014, Maples served as the assistant equipment manager for the Blue Raiders where he helped coordinate all the day-to-day operations. He also assisted in the design and ordering of new Nike Pro Combat apparel while coordinating the logistics for all road games.
Maples, who is married to the former Carmen Merritt, earned his undergraduate degree from Middle Tennessee in Engineering Technologies (2013). The Maples are expecting their first child, Chloe, in April.
"I am grateful for my opportunity to advance my career at Middle Tennessee," added Maples. "Relocating back to Murfreesboro three years ago with just a hope and dream to help advance the athletic departments equipment operation and now having the chance to take on a bigger task is a blessing. None of this would be possible without my massive support system and the many who believed in a young man from Memphis who simply wants to make a positive impact on the lives of student-athletes.
"Thank you Murfreesboro for welcoming Carmen, myself, and our new addition, Chloe, with open arms. Now let's be great on purpose."
