Round 1 Results
WILMINGTON, N.C. – With just shy of 36 holes completed on day one of the River Landing Classic, Middle Tennessee sits in second place behind only No. 32 Campbell at 12-over par.
"We played very well this morning and had a lot of birdies as a team," Head Coach Chris Adams said. "We've still put ourselves in a great position to finish strong tomorrow."
The Blue Raiders got off to a hot start in Wilmington, firing a 2-over par 290 in round one to carry a six-stroke lead into the second round before the Camels kicked it up a notch to overtake the top spot with a 3-under mark so far in the second round.
"The weather was pretty brisk all day 45 and a cold north wind made things pretty tough all day, but I like the way they stayed in the moment and competed despite not finishing the second round," Adams added. "I think they have a great mindset to come out tomorrow and give it all they have."
Four Blue Raiders posted opening rounds that placed them in the Top 17 through 18 holes, led by senior Jenna Burris' 1-under par 71.
Joining her near the top of the field were sophomore Sophie Burks (E), freshman Catherine Caudill (+1) and senior Hanley Long (+2).
Now through at least 34 holes each, Burris (+1), Burks (+2) and Long (+2) sit in the Top 8 with Burris tied for fourth in the field of 89 golfers.
"We have three players in the Top 10 and have been showing a lot more confidence this week than we seemed to last week," Adams stated.
Caudill is now tied for 48th at 9-over par while senior Kailey Collier is 14-over par through 35 holes.
Freshman Madison Smith, playing as an individual at River Landing, is 11-over through 34 holes.
The Blue Raiders will conclude round two on Tuesday morning at 7:45 a.m. CT with the third and final round to follow.
