Blue Raiders Upset Bid of No. 12 Oregon Falls Short

EUGENE, Oreg. – Despite taking a 2-0 lead, Middle Tennessee could not finish the upset over No. 12 Oregon, falling 4-2 to the Ducks late Thursday night.

The Blue Raiders started strong by claiming doubles point with a 6-4 triumph from No. 63 pair Tom Moonen and Chris Edge over the No. 60 duo Armando Soemarno and Charles Roberts. Following that victory, Gonzalo Morell and Pavel Motl clinched the crucial doubles point by taking down the Oregon pair of Joshua Charlton and Emmanuel Coste.

Quickly after the huge first point, everything seemed to go the Blue Raiders way as Pavel Motl dominated his match up for two easy straight set wins (6-1, 6-1) giving him a team leading 10 single wins.

A few moments later, the momentum changes as the No. 12 Oregon Ducks knotted things up with back-to-back wins. Max Rauch tried to swing the momentum back to the Raiders but missed an opportunity in the second set to give the Raiders a 3-2 lead.

The Ducks seized the moment after Tom Moonen battled to the last points to give MT a chance but Oregon took the lead for the first time and Rauch soon fell on court four, the Ducks soon clinched the come from behind win over the Blue Raiders.
