Beckner, Owens tabbed to C-USA All-Academic Team

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Blue Raider men's golfers James Beckner and Tanner Owens have been voted to the 2019 InTouch Credit Union Conference USA All-Academic Team, as announced Thursday morning by the league office.
Middle Tennessee now boasts seven selections to the five-member team in just six years as a C-USA member, and has earned multiple selections to the team in back-to-back seasons.
Beckner, a Biology major, owns a perfect 4.0 GPA as he approaches his May graduation from Middle Tennessee and will begin dental school at the University of Tennessee in the fall of 2019.
The Kingsport, Tenn., native has notched a 75.4 stroke average on the season and earned a Top 10 finish at the East Bay Deli Classic to end the fall semester.
One of MT's two All-Academic honorees a season ago, Beckner becomes the first Blue Raider to earn the distinction twice and is the only two-time winner in the 2019 group.
Owens holds a 3.86 GPA in Middle Tennessee's recently added Healthcare Administration program and stands as the only current student-athlete at MT enrolled in the program.
The Milton, Tenn., native owns Middle Tennessee's second best scoring average on the season at 72.2 strokes per round and has posted two Top 10 finishes on the season thanks in part to 12 rounds of par or better.
"Congratulations to James and Tanner on being named to the All-Academic Team," head coach Mark McEntire said. "They are true student-athletes and getting two Blue Raiders honored is a true testament to the hard work our team puts in both on and off the course."
With the regular season behind them, Beckner and Owens lead their team into the Conference USA Championship Monday at Texarkana Country Club in Texarkana, Ark.
