MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee senior receiver Ty Lee has been named to the 2019 Biletnikoff Award Preseason Watch List, as announced by The Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation Thursday. It marks the second straight year he has made the list.
Lee, an honorable mention all-conference pick in 2018, enters the 2019 season as the NCAA's active career leader in receptions with 213. The Moultrie, Ga., native currently ranks third all-time in receptions (213), fifth in receiving yards (2,537) and third in touchdown receptions (21).
Lee was an all-conference honoree in 2017 after being named Freshman All-American and earning a spot on the C-USA All-Freshman team in 2016. He currently has caught at least one pass in 40 straight games which is just three shy of equaling the school record of 43.
He is coming off a solid junior season where he hauled in 71 passes for 883 and seven touchdowns while also returning punts and kickoffs. Lee reeled in 10 passes for a career-best 158 yards last year in a win over UTEP.
The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes the outstanding receiver in college football. Any player, regardless of position (wide receiver, tight end, slot back, and running back) who catches a pass is eligible for the award. The award recipient is selected by the highly distinguished Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee, a group of prominent college football journalists, commentators, and former receivers. Foundation trustees do not vote and have never voted.
Receivers are periodically added to the watch list as their season performances dictate. Actual, not potential, performance is the basis for inclusion on the Biletnikoff Award Watch List.
The 2019 Biletnikoff Award winner will be presented live on Dec. 12, 2019, on The Home Depot College Football Awards show on ESPN.
