MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Rising senior and team leader Bri Tankesley represented Middle Tennessee in Conference USA's annual Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Meetings at the league office in Dallas, Texas, on July 25-27.
"This experience helped me grow my leadership skills by learning new methods of communication with my teammates and coaches," Tankesley said. "I was able to take away a fresh perspective on improving the life of a student-athlete as well as some great friendships with other C-USA student-athletes."
Tankesley met with a student-athlete representative from the 13 other member schools as well as two of the league's Faculty Athletic Representatives (FAR) to discuss relative topics to collegiate athletics, including mental health and personal branding. Additionally, participants in the program prepared Hope Kits for patients helped by the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
"Bri is the consummate student-athlete, so to have her represent this University as the SAAC representative is a great honor for her," Head Coach Chuck Crawford said.
An exercise science major, Tankesley was named to C-USA's In-Touch Credit Union All-Academic Team after the 2018 season and followed that up with a 4.0 GPA in the spring. She was one of three Blue Raiders to be inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma National Student Athlete Honor Society last year.
On the court, Tankesley led her squad in sets played (101), digs (385) and digs per set (3.81) in 2018. Her standout season led to an invitation to try out for the U.S. National Team in March.
"Bri's got a chance to be a three-year captain as a transfer, which is something special because she had to earn that respect within a program that was already established," Crawford continued. "That leadership opportunity afforded her the chance to have a voice not only with her team, but with other sports as well."
