Volleyball Sweeps Alabama A&M

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.—The Middle Tennessee volleyball team defeated Alabama A&M in three sets by scores of 25-16, 25-21, 25-20. The Blue Raiders improve to 3-7 on the season, while the Bulldogs fall to 3-6.
Dora Peonia led the match in attacks with a total 14 kills in three sets. Freshman Dasia Smith started and played in her first full match of her college career and finished with a .625 hitting percentage. Bri Tankesley led the back row with 16 digs, and also dished out three service aces. Samira Lawson-Body also tallied three service aces to add to the teams nine total.
Set-By-Set
The Bulldogs got off to a 2-0 start in set one, but the Blue Raiders went on a 3-0 run to take the lead. After two kills, Alabama A&M took back the lead until MT went on a 5-0 that included back-to-back kills from Peonia and Lawson-Body and Tankesley's first ace on the match. Taylor Hammill had two kills in set one, one of which brought the MT lead to 14-11 and was immediately followed by a swing from Lawson-Body, 15-11. The Blue Raiders held on to the lead and claimed the match with a kill by Amalie Jorgensen, 25-16.
Alabama A&M had a 1-0 lead in set two before MT went on a 5-0 run to take over, 5-1. At 7-4, the Blue Raiders tallied three straight kills from Hammill and Urte Neimantaite, 10-4. Lawson-Body sent the ball to the ten-foot line to bring it to set point, 24-18, and MT eventually took the set with a Peonia kill, 25-21.
The Blue Raiders put the first point on the board in set three with kill from Smith. Alabama A&M then took a 2-1 lead, but not for long. MT went on a 5-0 run before the Bulldogs scored one, then continued on another 4-0 run that included two service aces from Lawson-Body, 10-3. The Blue Raiders kept the lead throughout the set, claiming the set 25-20 with a Neimantaite kill and Hammill ace, and the match.

The Blue Raiders are on the road again this weekend as they travel to Cookeville for their final tournament of the season. They face Southern Illinois on Friday, and Western Illinois and host Tennessee Tech on Saturday.
