Raiders Capture Four Wins in 2020 Start

No. 48 Motl/Slump claim win over No. 21 Cutting/Stevenson

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee Men's Tennis team opened its 2020 spring season by capturing two doubles and two singles wins during day one of the Coach Dick LaLance Invite on Friday. The Blue Raiders split the four doubles matches and took two out of the eight singles matches against Memphis.

In doubles, the ITA No. 48 combo of Pavel Motl and Stijn Slump continued their hot streak as they toppled the No. 21 duo Oscar Cutting and David Stevenson, 6-4. On court three, Tom Moonen and Chris Edge captured a win over James and Matt Story, 6-3.

The singles matches were played shortly after with wins by a pair of sophomores, Pavel Motel (6-4, 7-6 (7-2)) and Francisco Rocha (4-6, 6-1, 6-4). The senior, Tom Moonen battled his way in a third set but fell 4-6, 6-2, 2-6. Play resumes in the three-day tournament on Saturday with the Blue Raiders facing Vanderbilt Commodores 2 p.m. on Saturday.
