Artis Elected to North Carolina High School Hall of Fame

MURFREESBORO, Tenn.— Seven-time All-American and Blue Raider Athletic Hall of Fame member Greg Artis was elected to the North Carolina High School Track & Field and Cross Country Hall of Fame Class of 2020.
As a native of Wilson, NC, Artis attended Fike High School where he set several records and won a few state championships along the way. The three-time state champion won the triple jump championship on twice, setting records both times, and the long jump once in 1977 when he set a 20 year record of 24-8. He continues to hold the 4A state meet triple jump record of 51-feet, 5.5 inches after 42 years, and was also named the 1977 Track & Field News and High School Yearbook Track & Field Athlete of the year.
During his time at Middle Tennessee from 1978-81, Artis was a seven-time All-American under the helm of current head coach Dean Hayes. He won individual championships in triple jump and long jump during both the indoor and outdoor season, and was also voted Ohio Valley Conference Indoor and Outdoor Male Track Athlete of the Year, as well as the overall OVC Athlete of the Year.
Artis was inducted into the Blue Raider Hall of Fame on June 15, 2001 and will be inducted into the North Carolina High School Track & Field and Cross Country Hall of Fame on Feb. 1, 2020 in Winston-Salem, NC.
