Lady Raiders collect seven wins on day one
MURFREESBORO, TN. – The Middle Tennessee Lady Raider tennis team opened play at the MTSU Tournament on Friday at the Adams Tennis Complex. The team collected seven wins on the first day of action.
The day started in singles, where the Lady Raiders were matched up with WKU and ETSU. Lidia Burrows picked up the first win of the weekend for the team, knocking off ETSU's Morales, 6-2, 6-1. Muskan Gupta capped off a tight second set for the second win on the day with a 6-3, 7-5 mark. First round of singles finished with Lee Barnard topping Alfaro of ETSU, 6-4, 6-4.
Matched up against tough competition, the second round of singles battled to tight third setters. Senior Zani Barnard won 6-1, 2-6, 10-5, to WKU's Bernardos. Her twin Lee Barnard also won a tight battle, 6-0, 4-6, 10-8, to Dungern of WKU. Burrows continued her hot start with a win over WKU's Otake, 6-3, 5-7, 10-7.
The Lady Raiders rounded out the day with a cold round of doubles as the sun set at the beautiful Adams Tennis Complex. Burrows and L. Barnard capped off their perfect day with a dominate 6-2 win over Cramer/Subias of WKU.
The Lady Raiders will close out the weekend with another round of singles and two rounds of doubles on Saturday. First match will start up at 9 a.m.
