MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Head Coach Nick McDevitt and the Blue Raider Men's Basketball Program received more good news from the NCAA this week, as transfer big man Jared Coleman-Jones was declared immediately eligible for the 2020-21 season.
A 6-foot-10, 240 pound forward originally hailing from Hiram, Ga., Coleman-Jones comes to Middle Tennessee after playing in all 31 games for the Northwestern Wildcats as a true freshman last season.
"We are all very happy for Jared and his family that his waver for immediate eligibility was granted by the NCAA," McDevitt stated. "His combination of size, skill, and collegiate playing experience make him a great addition to our frontcourt and our team."
Coleman-Jones earned more than 10 minutes per game as a rookie, averaging three points and two rebounds per outing. He hit his stride as Big Ten play began, opening February with a three-game span in which he averaged 10 points per game including a career-high 12 points against Michigan.
As a prep standout at McEachern High School, Coleman-Jones was a Top 10 prospect in the state of Georgia and led the Indians to a perfect 32-0 season and Class 7A State title that vaulted them to a No. 1 national ranking by PrepNation and a No. 2 national ranking by MaxPreps.
With Mississippi State transfer Elias King and Charleston Southern transfer Dontrell Shuler already having received immediate eligibility, the Blue Raiders now have all 15 players available for the 2020-21 season.
This season marks the first time in the McDevitt era that Middle Tennessee opens the season with more than nine scholarship players eligible, a significant boost to the team's depth on gameday.
